The Three Numbers We Look At

What you actually made last month
Not last year. Turnover is the number most directors can quote; profit after everything, by month, is the one that tells you whether the last price rise worked. That monthly view is what management accounts give you, and most directors have never had one.

How long your cash lasts
Your bank balance on a Tuesday is not the same as your cash position. We work out what is genuinely yours once VAT, PAYE, the next corporation tax payment and your supplier terms are taken out, and how many weeks that leaves you.

What you owe next, and when
Corporation tax, VAT, PAYE, your own self assessment, dividends you have already taken. Dates and amounts on one page, so nothing lands as a surprise in January.
If one of those three is uncomfortable, that is the useful part of the call. It is much cheaper to find out in October than to find out from a payment demand.

A few common questions before you book
“Is this a sales call?”
It is a free call that we hope you enjoy enough to want more of. The difference is what happens in the 30 minutes: we look at your figures and tell you what they say. If we are not the right firm for you, we will say so on the call and tell you what to ask the accountant who is.
“I already have an accountant.”
Then you will get a second opinion on three numbers, for nothing, from a firm that has no idea what your current accountant charges. Nobody is asking you to leave anyone. If you do decide to move later, we write to your accountant, collect the paperwork and handle the switch.
“I don’t think my bookkeeping is good enough to show anyone.”
We have started with a carrier bag of receipts more than once. It is not a test, and there is nothing you can show us that we have not seen.
“Are you chartered?”
Worthwhile Accountancy is licensed by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT registration 248912). Sally, who runs our farming and agricultural clients, is a chartered accountant. Ask us this on the call if it matters to you and we will give you a straight answer about what we do and do not take on.
